Designsplus is an Essex-based architecture and design studio established in 2017. The practice is committed to delivering design with substance in a simple, well-considered and detailed manner whether architecture or other forms of design.
Our aim is to create great design, which has substance, beauty and is designed to last. We employ many methods to explore and communicate our ideas including drawing, modelling and photography. The work of the practice encompasses many areas, and projects span from small to large scale, from on-paper solutions to building innovative places to live and to work.
Lead by an RIBA chartered architect the practice is passionate about architecture and all forms of design. We work on a wide range of projects from domestic extensions through to commercial new builds, with a passion for working with heritage buildings. We offer the full architectural service and can take a project from early concept and feasibility stages, through to planning applications and construction information.
We approach every project with passion and dedication, applying meticulous detail, skill and craftsmanship to every stage of our design and delivery process. Our aim is to deliver successful design in a simple, elegance and responsive manner. This approach is driven by our Clients aspirations and enriched by constraints.

BSc (Hons) MArch ARB RIBA
As founding director Paul established Designsplus in 2005 as a portfolio and creative outlet for design and exploration beyond architecture. Paul studied architecture at the University of Bath for six years during which he receiving a BSc (Hons) in General Architectural Studies followed by a Masters in Architecture (MArch).
Before graduating from Bath, Paul went to work for Bennetts Associates in London, where he has worked ever since, working on numerous multi-award winning projects for prestigious clients including The Theatre of Comedy Company, Grosvenor London, the Bedford Estates, The Royal Borough of Greenwich, Dogs Trust and The Royal Shakespeare Company.
While working at Bennetts Associates he gained a Distinction in a Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Practice from University College London The Bartlett and was made an Associate in 2015.
Paul currently mentors students for their Part III studies sharing his wide range of experience on cultural, commercial and residential projects largely based around existing listed and heritage buildings.
In parallel to his architectural work, Paul acts a trustee Director of Colchester & North East Essex Building Preservation Trust working on a number of Heritage at Risk projects around his home town of Colchester, Essex.
